These two works provide style information on word choice and usage. Both works also contain basic legal information on how to avoid libel suits.

Provides the user with information about the Brookings Institute and the information that it can provide reporters on a wide variety of topics. It also provides information on how to contact Brookings Experts.

The Encyclopedia of American Journalism.
An encyclopedia specializing in American Journalism. Entries range from individual writers, to concepts such as "Yellow Journalism".

Encyclopedia of Associations.
Provides contact information for over 22,000 nonprofit American organizations and 19,000 International organizations. Organizations are grouped by a subject heading. Excellent indexing allows the user to find an organization quickly.

Newspapers
Describes the history of the newspaper, and how it has been produced since the 18th century. There is also discussion about how newspapers interact with society, the law, and technology. At the end of each chapter there is a bibliography.

The New York Public Library Desk Reference.
Provides the user with quick access to a wide variety of facts. Chapter headings include: Times and Dates, Symbols and Signs, The Animal World, Math and Science Basics, Literature, Religions, Inventions and Scientific Discoveries, Etiquette, Legal Information, Useful Addresses, Household Tips, Sports and Games, Health, and First Aid. There is a bias towards U.S. information.

The Statesman's Yearbook.
Contains information about world government ranging from individual countries to multinational organizations. Entries contain a brief overview of the history of the country and a snapshot of the country through statistics. For organizations, the entries contain information about the origin of the organization, what its aims are, who its member countries are, and who the leader of the organization is.

The World Almanac and Book of Facts
A good ready reference source. Among the information that is contained in the yearly volumes are major news events for the previous year, information about countries and their leaders, states and their governors, astronomy, sports, and health information. There is a bias towards U.S. information.

World Press Encyclopedia.
Contains information and statistics about the worlds media. Included in the discussion of media are television, radio, and Internet publication. Basic trends in global regions are discussed as well as specific information for countries. Statistics reported include Literacy Rate, Population, Number of Television Stations, Number of Radio Stations.

LexisNexis Academic provides searchable access to a comprehensive spectrum of full text information from over 5,600 sources, selected to meet academic research needs. Newspapers indexed includes the New York Times, Agence France Presse, Al-Jazeera, The Times (London), and many other international papers.

NewsBank Info Web
Complete full text content of local and regional news, including community events, schools politics, government policies, cultural activities, local companies, state industries, and people in the community. Paid advertisements are excluded.

Newspaper Source

Newspaper Source provides cover-to-cover full text for 23 national (U.S.) and international newspapers, including USA Today, The Christian Science Monitor, The Washington Post, The Times (London), The Toronto Star, etc. The database also contains selected full text from more than 180 regional (U.S.) newspapers, including The Boston Globe, The Chicago Tribune, The Detroit Free Press, The Miami Herald, The New York Daily News, The San Jose Mercury News, etc. In addition, full text television & radio news transcripts are provided from CBS News, FOX News, NPR, etc.

The Brookings Institution
An independant, nonpartisan organization devoted to shaping public policy. Website contains many useful links for journalists.

Editor and Publisher
Discusses up do date issues that affect the press. Site also contains a listing of full time employment options across the nation.

FACSNET
This site's goal is to improve the quality of information reaching the public through the news. The site has links to a various online resources to assist journalists in gathering accurate information.

FAIR (Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting)
A media watch group that reports on media bias and censorship. Site provides commentart on and examples of bias in mass media.

Poynter Online
Probably the single best portal on the Web for accessing Journalism resources. Includes an extensive Resource Center as well as News and Commentary, Romanesko's Media News, the Nelson Search Tool For Journalists, and much more.

The Freedom Forum
The Freedom Forum, Newseum, and Newsroom Diversity information
