Title: Jefferson's Wall and the Relationship Between Religion and Politics

Scholars believe that Thomas Jefferson argued for a “wall of separation” between church and state to prevent each institution from affecting one another and prohibit the clergy from sustaining artificial aristocracy. Jefferson’s ultimate goal, however, was to use religious liberty to reinforce and advance the American political system of republicanism.
